Awesome thanks for the effort to put the report together. And yes I also started of just by joining the wife in the back up car. Now I need the fix every so often.

Really nice report.

Glad you guys are having fun.

I believe we have you to thank for some of the route suggestions. :thumleft: What is the name of the road/pass just after Rooinek Pass? We would not have known of its existence if you hadn't mentioned it.

Came looking for this after we spoke about it this afternoon. Seems like an awesome trip. Well written report!

Thanks all for the great feedback. I suppose this means that I must go on more rides, so that I can ride more trip reports.  ;)

Now put 2 weeks aside for a trip to Namibia, that will make a great RR for us to follow!
That is the eventual plan, but I need to up-skill some more first.  :thumleft:

Dankie dat julle dit gedeel het Zanie! Awesome RR! :thumleft:
Het omtrent lekker gelyk :3some:

Nice ride report - Thanks for sharing.
Glad you got over the fear and did it. Been there after an off and it takes time to get into it again.

Respect on conquering your fear, loved the report and now all I want to do is ride...  :thumleft:

Congratulations Zanie on facing your fears. What a fantastic RR.
My partner, Philip is the buddy Jean (Snoekie) was suppose to do the trip with, He had a stroke 3 days before he was suppose to leave on the trip. He was super bummed, but at that stage his health was the most important. He is well on the road to recovery and I do hope he can do this trip in the near future. I am so glad Jean 'caught up' with you guys and he could still continue with the trip.
You have inspired me to also get onto a bike and start riding...have always just done pillion. Looking forward to some more RR from you conquering your fears one trip at a time...

Thanks Stella. I'm glad Philip is better. It must have been incredibly frustrating for him.

I am so glad that you find my RR inspiring. I hope this will get more ladies on their own bikes! I like to be "in control of my own destiny," for better or worse. Even if I do fall, at least I know I can only blame myself. I can set my own, more sensible pace, and Lance can speed ahead whenever he feels like it without repercussions (e.g. nagging girlfriend)!

Since this trip I have been to Verneukpan (https://wilddog.net.za/forum/index.php?topic=176424.msg3295473#msg3295473) and have done the infamous Eselbank road (RR to follow when I get around to it). I am a complete bike addict now!

Nice report.

Spot the difference

Such a lekker RR - thank you for sharing Zanie.  :thumleft:
If I may ask (and you might have mentioned) - what boots do you now wear for riding?

Reading how many people pick up feet / ankle injuries, it has made me decide to invest in a pair of decent boots ASAP.

I wear them even on my work commute (I now commute daily by bike - my poor car doesn't get used for weeks at a time). I only realised the other day that even the low-level foot pain is finally gone; after 18 months. There's still stiffness, but that's ok.

Other than a helmet, I think a decent pair of boots is the next safety item on the priority list. Feet are not something you mess with. Due to the fact that they are load-bearing, they take forever to heal.

I rode Antoniesberg Pass over the December holidays (I am currently extracting photos from hours of GoPro footage for a ride report) and ended up with my foot pinned under the bike. The steel shank in the sole of the boot kept my foot from being folded double. As it was, my foot was sore for about 30min. No lasting damage though. Boots may seem expensive, but one little miniature crack in a small foot bone cost me about 10k.

Thank you for the reply Zanie - much appreciated!  Yes, I am starting to realise the importance of a good pair of boots for protection, and good insurance against possible future doctor costs.

Glad to hear that you are finally pain free, it must be a relief!

Looking forward to your RR on Antoniesberg; hoping to get some nice passes under my belt soon, but first safety gear and an off-road course.
