Ag nee man ....dis nou weer Angola stories van voor af .....hoe gaan ek hou tot Maandg???  ;D ;D ;D

Great stuff!!!

This adventure riding thing is new to me.  This is my favourite type of report.  Sending me on an organised tour would be punishment.  These slightly anarchic trips are the ones that inspire me.  Loving this report.

And one set of pants and a spare tube...

At least you used the meat from the sheep that covered your seat...

December 23

Day 3 would see us cross the border. As usual we start packing at 7:00 and only manage to leave by 11:00. We are slow packers there is no way around it. If you ever join us on a trip, make sure to wake us early so we can get a headstart packing.
We of course slept right next to the border crossing. 3 second ride from camp to the border.

We hit the road towards Karasburg

On the road again
100_1871.JPG

We arrive in Karasbug and stop for a Beer. The pub we stop at sells only Quarts and they are only R9. Unfortunately the vibe in Karasburg is not cool at all. We were constantly looking over our shoulders and checking our gear. We were plagued by the terrible twins and soon gave them half our quarts and got back on the road as we were sure that we were about to get robbed.
At the garage me meet this dude traveling alone.
100_1874.JPG

We head on and take the tar to Keetmans
Coffee stop
IMG_0940.JPG

We get some drizzle and jump into our rainsuits
IMG_0946.JPG

Our route would soon head into a thunder storm. I had never been in anything like it. The raindrops were enormous and luckily we were wearing ATGATT  ;D. The rain was just too hard, so no photos taken of the storm. As hectic as it was, we drove right through it in about 7 minutes, properly soaked when we got out on the other side.
We reach Keetmans and find this great camp called Lafenis. Itâ??s just before the Keetmans turnoff on the left next to the Garage.

Comfortable riding for the day. Day 4 will see us off to Mariental on Christmas eve.

Cool report.

Around the time you left I heard a dedication on the radio one night of 2 guys traveling to Namibia from CT. They sent best wishes to family and all Wild Dogs. Was it you guys?

Nope, not me. Dont think it was beer. Mr Big left 1 day before us, maybe him

Nope not me
And Lisa might be offended if you call her a guy  :D

The previous night Beer managed to cut his hand. This is him on the way to the shower.  ;D
100_1888.JPG

We pack up and make our usual getaway of about 11:00. The road is really great and after the previous days rain a bit more interesting than the normal dry dusty roads.
100_1893.JPG

As beautiful as the empty spaces are here, there always seems to be a beer bottle lying around
IMG_0951.JPG

Lunch time, good old pilchards, dry bread and hot water, mmm
IMG_0952.JPG

As we cruise on we can see that we are heading for the rain. The rain is heavy and donâ??t allow us to take the cameras out.
IMG_0954.JPG

We stop in Mariental and find a butchery with some nice lamb rib to make for Christmas eve dinner. Camp for the night is the Riverside lodge (thereâ??s no river though). Real nice camp with a nice toilet/shower and braai facility.

At the end of the rainbow is a KLR  ;D

Dinnerâ?¦ the good stuff, while this was braaing a Karate water was being enjoyed.
IMG_0967.JPG

We finally ran out of karate water and lucky for us beer is always available in Nam, even on Christmas. Pop into the Engen and grab some Windhoeks. What bikes look like when wearing beer goggles:

Sleeping on the job, leads to spillage:  ::)

The ribs were good, and very welcome, as the only food we had that day was the pilchards.

Day 5

Merry Christmas, no gifts to exchange, but we are both pretty happy just being on our bikes.
Today it is off to Windhoek. The road is dry and its Christmas, we donâ??t stop much for photos and just want to get to Windhoek. Itâ??s really dry and we are boiling. We are about to stop for lunch and I decide to push a few kmâ??s more.
I spot a sign saying Bitterwasser flying field. What an oasis. This is situated in a pan where they fly gliders. The gliders are about 120k euros each and there are quite a few of them

But the best partâ?¦

And

It gets better, Christmas buffet for R55
IMG_0974.JPG

We wolf down the buffet and donâ??t really feel like riding further as we are stuffed.
After convincing ourselves weâ??re not tired, we go on and things start to get greener very quickly

IMG_0991.JPG

We head on to Windhoek and meet up with our Italian friend Fela. Him and his brother help us find a place to stay for the night. We jump into his cage and head to KFC (The single only eating place open on Christmas). Back to camp for a beer and Fela says he will join us for a little while on route to Swakop the next day. We retire for bed.

Nice mission for the day, but very tiring. Day 6 Swakop, what a lekker pad.

Awesome report, keep it coming.

I just love reading these Namibian trip reports....

I dont have internet access at home and do most of the posting from work or at the airport. The photo uploading is what is slowing me down. I will try and post the photos and then edit the text in to see if it goes faster.

Day 6: Windhoek to Swakop

We manage to leave earlier than normal thanks to Fela, who pitched on his brother's Dakar.

This is a great road to ride and there are a few stops to make. Just before we got here there was some abandoned building to the left of the road. we didnt stop though.
This appears to be Namibia's first AA, read the sign.

A Beer on the move
100_1951.JPG

The view from the pass is quite spectacular and you can see right round.
IMG_1018.JPG

There is a little shack at the top and if you are lucky it is not occupied, you can spend the night here, free of course.
we stop here for a coffee and biscuit break.
IMG_1022.JPG

We are cruizing where there is nothing but this tree next to the road. We decide that since this is the only tree for miles, we simply have to stop underneath it.
100_1972.JPG

This would prove quite alot of hardwork to get there as the tree is standing in a riverbed. Getting the bike to dig out of the sand is a mission, but eventually we get there (its only about 50m feels like a 1000 with luggage)
IMG_1024.JPG

The trip back is just as fun and watching beer try and get the bike to plain on the sand was a blast, thanks for that.

Camp for the night, right next to the Tiger Reef bar. This would become home for 2 nights. By now I had developed a flatspot on the D606 where the beadlock is located. tomorrow I must find a new tyre.
100_1978.JPG

Kappa has some great saddlebags that come with useless rain covers. the water runs in underneath and actually keep the luggage wet. But they make great beer fridges.
100_1977.JPG

We have a chilled braai tonite and enjoy our beers. No riding planned for tomorrow, just chilling in Swakop and visiting Walvis.
