We are doing a winter trip to Lesotho , watched a video (shot in Switzerland) guy doing a winter ride and offering advice on how to keep warm in cold weather riding . Main reason for being is wind , if it passes threw the clothing you will freeze and best to prevent this is layers . He also mentioned options on the bike and these options work , high screen , travel bags on the crash bars , ( he was riding a GS ) muffs on the handle bar and a sheep skin seat cover . He even mentioned heated jacket and gloves , but I think those bits of kit can be very expensive and battery live on full is about 2 hours . low setting is better at about 7 hr .
In most cases I think the SA biker is more or less covered for riding in winter , but being comfortable is sometimes still a quest , dew to the fact that we have super warm summer and very cold winters and our kit is not designed to cover both 100% .
I have some questions ; those elephant ears ( muffs for bars ) where can one get them? or idea to make up a pair ( cant say I like the look) and then a sheep skin seat cover , where to buy and how does one attach it to the seat , suppose I could lace it around the bottom . If you have used a sheep skin on the seat does it add more hight ( distance to ground ?
please share ideas if you have any and if you have done a trip in - degree temps , what did you do to stay /keep warm . what advice can you share apart from dont do it
link to video ( dont know how to upload it )
