We went for a ride today with the two Yamaha's in the surrounding areas of Springbok just for a bit of fun and practice for a planned ride at the end of March through the Richtersveld. The day started off well with a nice cool breeze but with temps scoring high at 40 degrees half past ten in the morning >. The 'feather' weighted S10 glided through the thick sand without any problems... Then from turning off the tar road onto a hard surface gravel road, I had my FIRST fall with the S10 doing approximately 20 km/h, with the nose slipping out from under me. Thanks to Baas Kobus' advice fitting the RUMBUX crashbar, the only damage to the bike were a few scratches on the crashbar. :thumleft:. My little lady didn't fair that well, biting the dust three times....But keep in mind she is still a novice, but did really well for only her third attempt at riding the rough terrain. The route we took was from Springbok to Carolusberg (see old mine on pics) the whole time riding "off-road". Then we went to O'kiep and then the back roads to Nababeep back to Springbok.
The terrain is so treacherous that we rode about 70km and it took us 3 1/2 hours to complete the route. Only stopping for some desperately needed water along the way.
Next time we will add pics of the ROUGH terrrain!
