Gravel newbie looking for trip info

Doing a solo trip Cape Town to Vosburg to Upington and back to Cape Town 1st week of Mar Have attached route i will travel This is my 2nd trip on gravel Any advice/pointers/info will be appreciated in particular the Vosburg-Upington leg Want to cross Verneukpan Do i need permission to cross(ie private property?) and roads in the area(soft sand/rocky/gravel highway?)
I don't camp so travel light Is it advisable to carry extra fuel/water?
