Hard riding around the cape

Mate and I are looking for some tough desert mountain terrain to test ourselves and our bikes before we head off to damaraland next year, hardest routes we can find within reasonable distance from cape Town I'll be on either a 500 or a 690 and he is on a 690. Both confident in the sand but rock riding and difficult climbs and hard to find. Should.point out that we are happy to pay for access if needed so if you know of anything let us know
