I ride a Honda Varadero... 1999 carburetor model. It has done about 60,000 kms (31,000 since I bought it about 2 years ago). I bought it as a rebuilt code 3 bike, I have not had any problems with it, have not even replaced the chain... just services every 6000 kms and one set of tyres. Had a reasonably minor fall in George, but the crash bars save big bucks.
There are a few nicks... dings from small dirt offs, scratches from the fall, etc. Bike does not use oil, but I notice on the numberplate a few tiny droplets... I suspect oil spat out the exhausts. There is a small wobble in the front rim, but really minor... gets unstable after a few seconds if I let go of the handlebars.
I have really enjoyed this, my first DS bike.
My probleem is eintlik... my gat jeuk alweer. Ek is al lankal lus vir 'n 1200 GS.
I would love to do a bit of a rework of the bike...
- Have the plastics repaired and resprayed;
- Remove the small dings in the tank and respray;
- Replace the crash-bars;
- Have the experts open the engine and look at the oil droplets;
- Suspension overhaul;
- Chain, sprockets, tyres;
- Add a few smalls, handle bar raisers, more grippy pegs, new bash-plate, maybe dampener, HID lights or spots...
My estimate to do all of these are about R40k or so. Is this realistic?
Should I rather sell the Vara and buy a GS?
What say you?
