Ignoring a cracked rim.

When I was refurbishing the rims on my XT600, I had to replace the front as it had a 10mm crack starting from one side.

Yesterday, while making nonsense in the workshop, I heard a loud and sharp "TANG!" sound from somewhere inside a huge mountain of bike parts.

I found nothing, and this morning looking for a part, I saw this:
