Like many of us that have been motorcycle owners for years and know how to start a bike this could be and interesting fact , KTMs have a start map insdtalled on all there FI bikes . and the correct way to start a KTM IS TO PRESS THE START BUTTON WITH OUT TWISTING THE THROTTLE .
I have always opened the throttle just a bit , but when we last serviced my bike I saw my son just press the start button . Thought it a bit weird , left it , yesterday while chatting I mentioned that I mite need to buy a higher cca battery and that with the cold snap last week my Suzuki that has a Nano gel battery did not want to start , battery had no power , even charge3d it overnight , still did not start with out a boost . And so came the question re my observation on him starting the KTM .
He then explained the tach behind his technique . all made sense . he then told me that opening the throttle could upset the map and could result in the bike not starting and running the battery down .
So I now need to learn this new starting technique and place it into the memory banks . Maybe all FI bikes has a similar cold start map . and opening the throttle like with a carb model is wrong . Any comments ?
