I did a great trip to Oasis this past weekend.
Full ride report coming up soon.
I thought I'd rather post the issues on a separate thread.
I did 550km.
The trip to Oasis was such a rush. Went through some rain, some wind and some mountain passes. Epic. And I was very happy with the 640 ride.
But.Then.
Just before Oasis I stopped to wait for my crew in the 4x4 and my side stand just dropped off
And then the next morning I checked the oil and saw NOTHING! Empty.
Rode the bike around and some oil reappeared. Seems the weather elements didn't allow the oil to come down.
Research says to idle and ride the bike and then check oil.
This slight glass used to be full. I'm not a mechanic and not very good with the technical aspects of engines/clutch/ect.
Then we rode back home via Citrusdal.
After coming down the Piekenierskloof Pass, cruising at 130/135 the bike just dies. Dead.
Start up, ride 5 meters and dead again.
Took seat off to check battery and electrics. Everything seemed fine.
The dashboard screen just went blank but the front lights stayed on.
Ignition... fiddled with the wiring around the ignition and the screen would come on, go off, come on ect..
Removed igntion:
Noticed a wire that had come loose.
We then harvested some wire off the trailer and with some ducttape managed to get it sorted.
I'll have to rewire that properly.
Bike started and made it home.
When I got home I noticed this "oil sweat":
Some questions:
Did I ride the bike too hard? Cruising at high speed on an open road felt really good. But now I'm not sure if the 640 likes it..
Is that "oil sweat" the correct terminology? Or is that an "oil leak"
Is this a waring sign of more issues to come?
I must say that this bike is amazing and If only i could have 2 , 1 like KTMKOBUS has and one to push the limits with..
I'm keen to get to grips with the mechanical aspect of the 640 so if something happens whilst off-the-grid I can make a plan.
Feedback or input will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Pierre
