Joburg to Bela-Bela this weekend

Can anybody recommend a viable alternative route from Joburg to Bela-Bela (Warmbaths) apart from the boring N1 toll route?  I plan to ride there and back this weekend and would like to do some back roads and dirt highways.  Nothing too technical due to my injured shoulder, please.
