Jozi to Durban -The Long Way

I have some leave on Thursday and Friday and have decided to visit friends and family in Durban.  The two girls will go with the cage on Friday (N3), and I will leave on Thursday.  I'm considering going the long way - N17 to Ermelo, N2 over Piet Retief, Pongola, Hluhluwe, Richards Bay, and then the older roads to Durban.  I think this will be more scenic than the boring old N3 (with all its tollgates) and can have some nice scenery.  8)

Any advice?  Especially regarding road quality, places to see, places to avoid, etc. Also pre-ride check etc, please WDs :mwink:

I'm looking forward to my first long(ish) trip...  :ricky:
