I've run the jozi2Kozi cycle event for the last three years on an amazing route from Joburg to Kozi Bay through some incredible country including three game reserves (2 big 5).
All the support motorcycle riders (including me) have really wanted to do this as a bike event and with some negotiation have managed to get permission to do the route on motorcycles - yes including the game reserves. The route is a mix of single track, twee spoor, some district gravel roads and a little sand at the end. Overnights at Country Trax Amersfoort, Ithala Game Reserve & Kozi Bay.
Checkout the website, and if you really want to be tempted watch the cycle video! https://www.jozi2kozi.co.za/motorcycle-challenge/
The primary Red Route will have tough technical sections, river crossings, single track and twee spoor with some gravel district roads interconnecting these most suited to the smaller bikes and more technically competent riders. The Green route, designed for larger motorcycles will follow the same route with “detours” around the more technical sections on gravel or tweespoor roads.
Wild Dogs get a special discount.
NB The event can be ridden on plastics (ie non roadworthy bikes) but your own support vehicle will be required to transport the bikes out of JHB to a start point outside Nigel, plus for certain short stretches on connecting district roads (riding these sections is entirely up to the riders discretion or lack thereof). Please also consider fuel range on plastics.
