Ok, I can’t really remember how this trip got to be... but planning only started about a week before we left.
Braam and Wouter were planning to take their bikes through the boesmanland Kaudom Sand... and when we realised Easter week holds nothing interesting... Pierre and I decided to join them.
However after we realized that motorcycles aren’t allowed in the Kaudom National Park... we changed the trip a bit... and Kaokoveld was first on my list for a few years now. Wouter's response was... “ek besoek enige tyd weer daai plek”.
Besides... this kind of sand you only do for say few hours not a few days...

We put the 3 bikes... the two drz’s and the dr 650 on the Triton for the trip to Windhoek where we were joined by Braam on his ktm 690.
Pierre quickly serviced the bikes and organized them some new tekkies... and I also got a new pair of boots!
Pre lift off braai in Stellenbosch.
Packing is my job (simply because no one dares to do a better job)... one drz carries all the camping gear , so it only gets offloaded when we camp.
the trip to Windhoek took us exactly 24 hours... sleeping over halfway in Kokerboom Motel in Springbok.
Wouter woke us up at 4:30 am for the last stretch to Windhoek.
Saturday the 30th of March the four of us left Windhoek also quite early and eager for some riding.
Breakfast in Okahandja.
some gravel roads took us to Omaruru.
Lunch at Kashana Restaurant in Omaruru.
The first day we ended up in a rainy situation on our way to Khorixas. Wouter wanted to record a piece of track that takes us over the Ugab river.
It started raining and we had to wait it out at a small village called Okongwe, here we got proper directions from the local bar owner... and when the weather cleared we did the piece of twospoor track to Khorixas. What a pretty road to take!!!

The sun set on us and the last stretch of gravel to Khorixas was muddy from the rain... we only reached Igowati Lodge after dark.
The next morning... I was happy to get some of my washing done...
We decided to take this day easier and stayed over at Opuwo Country Hotel taking some slightly better alternative roads.
at the lodge
moving in!
Braam does a repair to Wouters GPS mount with some solder and a blow torch lighter.
The next day we decided to give Epupa Falls a skip and head out to van Zyl’s Pass Campsite...
