KLR sprockets and chain

Have to replace the sprockets and chain on my 2004 KLR. Was looking at the tri-metal sprockets from Chaintech in Kempton but believe they only have another shipment in early next year!
Question: what are the other KLR riders (and non riders) thoughts on sprockets and chain replacement. Does one keep it standard or change . If so, how and why?
