KZN 3 Oct 2010 - Ngilanyoni Mountain

Did some etymology and biology at the gym this morning.

Ngilanyoni is the isiZulu name for a bird's gizzard.

Its that hard muscly thing that you find in the alimentary canal of a seed-eating bird in between the crop and the intestine. It is used to grind up the seeds which have been soaked in the crop before they are passed into the stomach and tjoobs and then onto your visor or car's windscreen.

Why is the mountain called Ngilanyoni? I dunno.

The ride we did Doc ?

If so, I have attached a filtered track from Pinetown, onto Ngilanyoni, and to the R603 tar.

Beautiful....I get glimpses of that en route to work sometimes...love it!
