Take away the big cannons at the end and its the same trip me and JonW did. Really lekka, you must have pushed to make it in one day.

Just a note from a ex-Capie thats used to mountain passes....

For those of you that love a tar mountain pass now and then......The Blue Mountain pass, God Help me Pass and Baboon pass....this three tarred roads is linked and just one after other. I think their combined length are about 80km. And thats 80 km of the BEST mountain passes I rode in my life. Not one of the Cape's passes comes near. Trust me guys.

So go and play. :) ;) ;D

Nice report guys.

Is the dirt road from Thaba-Tseka to Mohale OK? How long did it take you to do that stretch?

BABOONS!!  ???  Not recommended for a DS bike, I assume you mean Bushmens pass.  It fits in better with the other two.  Baboons is a different story altogether.....

Great Report
Damm...it looks cold.
Lesotho has to be some of the best D/S country.
Zonk, you should know Lesotho like the back of your hand by now.

Cool trip Leo, Í want to go through Lesotho after the Alfie weekend, please send me your gps track of the route for some pointers
Cheers
Paul

8) Great trip report Leo, way cool.

Question on tanks though: What do the guys use for target acquisition in the dark. I assume IR cameras and NV equipment.

Bloody amazing blasts  ... I think my ears are ringing now  ;D

They have both passive and active night vision equipment.

Passive is like infrared, got a moerse big search light that fits just above the barrel, which shines an infrered beam, and this is like a torch, except it can only be seen by night vision equipment. Problem is enemy can slo see it.

Then they have active night vision, which is illumination flares that is used to light the battlefield, or a Xenon search light, can't remember hom many million candle light - we were told it will blind you one time if you look into it.

Latest technology that was demonstrated is thermal. Everything is white through the sights, except the object that emits heat, is displayed as black dots or visa versa. Not so "latest" anymore, but the first time I saw it in use.  ;)

Leo, the infrared you describe above is "active" night vision.
Passive is the stuff that usually shows green, cuts off with bright light etc.
