Lesotho - the ride that broke me (and my bike...)

Jirre..... Cross...!

But I understand the frustration - been there!
In hindsight, for me it's always an energy issue - I have learned to grab a few bites of a powerbar at these times - balances the sugar levels again.......

Great RR - kudo's for taking that on!

Can't wait for the rest!

Aah this brings back memories. Did that pass end of September very nice! You have to charge that hill with a bit of aggresion..sounds like you had a bit of that

Fuck I love that country. Just sad that its fast becoming a Chinese influenced highway so while we still have those amazing DS roads to ride I urge everyone to go. O and never loose your sense of humour.  :imaposer: Eventually the smallest stone will become a mountain.

So true. Going over the footage and hours of video clips, I realised again what n beautiful place this was. I have learnt a hell of a lot doing this trip.

I bet the first this is how isolated and alone you are. And how if things go pear shaped there its a long road out.

Only after 10 minutes back in the saddle did I realize that the handlebars were loose.  This became a huge problem, as I have fitted after-market handlebar raisers that needs Allen-keys to tighten instead of the BMW starpoint tool.

The torx key also work on allen bolts....

+100!!

So - I was bone tired, gatvol gesukkel and every time you think that you arrived at your destination, another hill looms, and another, and another.  At that stage all we wanted was to park the bikes and kick of our boots.  And a beer!  Just before Sehlabatebe we stopped at a shebeen and got ourselves a couple of Maluti's.  The last 30min we did in heavy mist and darkness (although it doesn't look that way in the pics!)  Also that last 10km was by far the trickiest - hard road surface with loose stones recently dumped over it.  A pleasure for a vehicle, but kark for a bike. All 3 almost went down a couple of times on that stretch!

We arrived at the house in the reserve after 11 hours in the saddle.  Cold, wet and thirsty.  A lady came to open up the place, lighted all the gas lamps in the house, and got a nice anthracite fire going inside.  It is a HUGE place - very clean, with bedding, kitchen and hot water, all running on gas.

We took out our braai packs and I fired up the gas stove and we ate around the fire place.  For R150 p/p this accommodation is really worth staying at least a couple of days!
