Hi James yes there is nothing that Duct tape and cable ties can't fix.

It depends were it breaks, but I fixed an XR 650 L's broken clutch lever in the Kaokoland recently, using cable ties only. :thumleft:

Have done it before on an XR 400.

They have to be strategetically placed of course. :thumleft:

I'm sure Schalk will have a surprise solution for us!

So after 347 people read this tread since Friday and not one is prepared to say how they would have made a plan to ride the bike out of the forest.

Use vicegrip to pull clutch cable to release.
Start bike and move onto loose dirt, rev bike and release vice grip spinning the rear and pulling away.
Ride without clutch and don't stop...

Hi yes Takashi unfortunately I did not have a vice grip with me. I was carrying a load of books as well.

Start in neutral on a downhill. Roll it and click into 2nd. Ride clutchless to the shop and buy a new one

Hi Karel unfortunately no shop stocked BMW parts up north. The bike was against an uphill but in the end it worked out.

Hi Ri yes. The Population of Sweden is only 10 million people and the country is more than 2000 km long. Large parts are unpopulated with beautiful pine forest and plenty of lakes. One of the best countries in the world for wild camping. This factor also brings a lot of tourist to Sweden. Another big attraction is the Midnight Sun in the middle of summer and the Northern lights towards winter. Look on Google what the Northern Lights look like. Still want to go back for that to Sweden and Norway.

Then after saying my goodbyes to the lovely Dutch couple, I was back on the E 45 going north. It was raining that afternoon and 150 km before Finland I booked into a cabin. As I was moving north now and it is mid-summer but cold as well. They had a restaurant there as well and having something to eat was just heaven although very expensive by South African standard.

The next day I crossed into Finland. Finland up here runs like a panhandle between Sweden and Norway. Although it runs next to Sweden this horizontal piece is a narrow piece. People in the area warned me to be on the lookout for Moose as they tend to run across the road. They have huge horns and walks around these areas wild and you find them right up to Nord Kapp.

I crossed this narrow piece of Finland and then I was in Norway. The roads were under construction and you sometimes have to drive on concrete stone for stretches of up to about 10 km at a time yet I did not see any people on the construction site. The scenery and the mountains though were beautiful and eventually I reached the beautiful town of Karin at the Norwegian Sea. Due to the cold I again booked into a cabin. The price for the night was equal to R 750. The intention was to reach Nord Kapp the following day.
