What a nice ride we had today!
I posted the “Planning” of this ride on both the Wilddog Forum and the Pretoria BMW Club forum, and I deliberately posted it quite late (Saturday Afternoon), my reason for this that when riding a place like Maraisburg, smaller groups just work so much better than very large groups.
So from the BMW Forum only Dickie (Spietkop – 800GS) joined for the ride, and from the Wilddog forum, Jules (660 Tenere), Rolling Stone (HP2), Lynn (XT660R) and Dakarboy (most modified 650GS ever).
We all met up at Uncle Harry’s and made small work of the 2 spoor all the way to Maraisburg. The pace was nice and fast without too much faffing around, just the way I like it!!!
We got to the first section of the dumps, this is where I fell when Marnus and I did the ride in February. I made it up this time without any hassle. Jules and Dakarboy also went up fine. Then I learned again that it is soooo much better to NOT warn people of a tricky section coming up, just let them deal with it. This is how we learn and how we build confidence and how we get better. Lynn had a small spill but nothing to worry about. After some encouragement she went for it and made it up perfectly! Spietkop needed some convincing after he saw Lynn’s farm, and he was sure that he could not get up the sandy wall. After a nice talking to and his nerves settled, he went for it and made it, with just a small “topple over” at the top. Rolling Stone gave it a go and he also made it up fine.
Then we played around a bit and Dakarboy could not stop smiling!!! And he can ride that mixed breed 650GS of his like a plastic bike – awesome riding boet!!!!
Some pics of the first play area
Jules, too fast for the cameraman
Dakarboy, or rather “Doughnut Boy”
Spietkop looking good!

We then went to the bigger dunes and fun was had by all!! This is such a nice big play area, some pics
Dakarboy flying
Lynn, kicking ass on the sand!!
Rolling Stone, he was too fast for my mik & druk’s focus

Spietkop on the dunes
It got very hot and this sand riding was getting to be some hard work, so we went looking for a shabeen for some refreshments.
After an awesome muddy detour, we found the shabeen and tasted the bitter nectar we were longing for.
Jules got properly stuck in this stinking shitty mud hole!!!
We were very stinky and very dirty, but very chuffed for a great day’s riding!!!
At home and my boney already all nicely cleaned up, ready to get dirty on the next ride!
Thanks to Julian, Lynn, Dickie, Eddie and Nils for a great day out!!!
