Melted plastic on BMW 1200 GS exhaust

Traveling back from Dullies and travelling through Pretoria, a blue plastic bag blew across the hiway and straight onto my exhaust. Needless to say the plastic bag melted over the steel. Before I damage something does anyone know how to get hard melted plastic off an exhaust without causing any damage and scratches
