More help needed please!

My 2001 1150 gs has developed a new and interesting issue! It will ride along happily sometimes for two hours or longer and then just die! Kick it into neutral and the dash lights are all dim and it won't start, turn the ignition off and then on again the lights are bright and I starts fine. This issue is intermittent to the extreme, yesterday it happened after ten minutes, today I have done 210kms no issue and then all of a sudden at 80 kph it dies, pull in clutch an hit start button and nothing, pull over into neutral switch off and on again and presto it starts and runs fine?

Any ideas? Please tell me I haven't missed something stupid like I did with the drainage hole on the tank!
