OK Gurus, lets hear your voices of wisdom:
I have the choice of replacing my SE's Karoos with more Karoos, or a more street biased option of Scorpion a-la ADV. What I am wondering about is the difference between the S and V rated tires in real world terms. I think the S is rated good for 180 km/h, and the V for 240 km/h. But I do not travel at 180 km/h. (Ok I have been that fast on my Karoos to see what its like! But normally I travel just a wee bit slower). So why go for the V?
So this is the choice:
Front: Pirelli SCORPION MT 90 A/T FRONT 90/90 -21 TL 54V
vs
Front: Pirelli SCORPION MT 90 A/T Front 90/90 -21 TT 54S
and
Rear: Pirelli SCORPION MT 90 A/T 150/70 R18 TL 70V
vs.
Rear: Pirelli SCORPION MT 90 A/T 140/80 -18 TT 70S
What will be the difference in the 2 sets of tires in terms of:
Handling
(would a 1cm narrower rear make any difference?)
(What about the extra height - is there enough difference there to feel a difference in gearing?)
Stickiness in cornering
Tire life
Wet roads
Dirt roads
Cost - The S versions are about ?20 cheeper per tire.
Any other "real world" criteria
I think the V is a tubeless tire, but on the SE it will get tubes in anyway.
So what do you guys think? And opinions of putting the Scorpions on the SE? (This depends on riding style and terrain of course). Lets hear it... I have loads to learn here.
Cheers,
Kev.
