Solitaire made famous for its Apple pie by old Moose…shame he passed away this past January from a heart attack
has grown into a nice outpost has great facilities i even got wifi….camping and ablutions are good there is a nice pub and restaurant
for which you will pay as they are in the middle on nowhere and the cost of getting supplies to Solitaire shows in the pricing….none the less i had a great stay over in Solitaire and had some apple pie in tribute to the legacy that old Moose had left

Mooses Apple pie

My home Camping at Solitaire

Solitaire good place for a stay over while on tour of Namibia

the great food in Solitaire….i really didn’t go hungry on this trip in fact i ate really well…

by this time my route i wished to take had started unfolding in my head and i wanted to head north to Epupa falls then across west to Katima Mulilo at the end of the Caprivi strip….just to say i did South to North and East to West and because i can hehehehe

so after Solitaire i always knew i was going to go say hi to my Mate who lives in Windhoek and sat the same time have the rear tyre replaced as it had half wear on it by the time i left home and not wanting to waste tread i opted to replace it in Windhoek
also at this stage the roads were not in great condition and my ESA suspension setting was not working…headlight globe had popped and ABS although deactivated for the dirt was showing a problem…so popping into Windhoek was not a bad idea i could visit my mate and have my bike seen to

Solitaire to Windhoek via C26 very very nice mountain pass

rear tyre was starting to look tired and was never going to make the trip but this i knew from the start

in Windhoek i stayed a few days with my mate David

took the bike in for a bit of attention

by the next afternoon got my GS back as good as new…the ESA just needed reset and a stone had cut the wire on the rear ABS but this was now fixed also new headlamp and rear TKC ready for the road to Epupa…

i nearly rode over it crossing the road just after Betta.....it was a moer of a snake so i had to turn around and get a pic.....trust me i don't know who was most afraid when i went to take the pic i even closed my visor incase......hehehe

Ai nou verlang ek kwaai, I camped on that same spot in solitaire 25th April this year... Lekker M :thumleft:

Very nice Mother. Also followed your trip on facebook  :thumleft:

Daar is nou maar eenmaal iets mooi aan 'n gepakte GSA en Landrover... nice, keep it coming Mother :thumleft:

I agree with all the comments, it brings back fond memories. I will definitely follow the full report.

you know, I now love reading this, and can't wait for the rest

for the whole while you were away the forum was dominated by topics such of the as fear while riding, shitloads of BMW bashing, loads of people yearning to rather be camelmen & grease monkeys again on bikes dating out of the 70's, just to be perceived as true adventurers or true bikers again.

What I like about you & your reports is that you just don't give a fuck about these " damduikers"

You just did your planning, without overpreparing, packed & went. You rode your big&heavy touring bike (which you chose above something smaller) over a moer of a long distance over various degrees of terrain, every day for as long & far as you wanted to. And you came home, safely.

That is my take on adventure riding.

Looking forward to the rest of your report  :thumleft:
