Firstly, as mentioned elsewhere, I am obliged to do this “ride report” as I told myself that I can not regard myself as a true wild dog without having posted some sort of report. Also I committed myself to doing this before reaching 1000 posts. So time was running out.

Prince Albert is a favourite hide away / holiday spot of mine. Been going there for the past 20 years. I today returned from a 10-day holiday.

For my last couple of visits I took my bike along. Previously my GSA, this time my Dakar which was much more fun.

I love playing around in the outskirts of town. Great scenery.

As a novice I love “practicing” on my friends olive farm in town.

More to follow.........)now-now. Want to see if this works

I also decided to go on some day trips. (Solo)

First was an outride to some of my friends olive orchards in Leeu Gamka.

It was an easy, beautiful gravel highway going there directly from Prince Albert. This is looking back towards Prince Albert.

Very interesting in the Karoo is to see the change in landscape whenever there is water around.

One of those things one should probably not do.

Driving around on these farms is just great. Interesting things to see, and interesting photo opportunities.

And then also driving on roads, not being sure at all where you will end up.

More............

My biggest wish in Prince Albert was always to do “Die Hell”. Never having any riding buddies there meant that it never happened.

This time was different. I decided to do it solo. For me this was a big thing, as I did not know what to expect.

I woke up on the morning, thinking, this is as fresh as I will be on this holiday. (having had a easy night before)

Packed my luggage consisting of two litres of water and two appels. Goodbuy wife, do not expect me back before 3pm.

The much reported road towards and up Swartberg pass is very nice. But I have done that before and was focussing on the task ahead. Anyway, it was moer cold at that stage.

The entry.

I’m in, no idea what was coming. A mix of nerves, expectation and excitement.

Looks like a long ride, and having no idea what lies beyond that.

There were plenty of these mild water crossings. Nice.

Uncertainty................................

And then, what is that green grass patch at the bottom. The end?

No, it proved to be the entry.

“The Hell” turned out to be paradise.

3724405482_5df590cdc0_o.jpg

The ride was quite rocky at times. This only added to the fun.

3724406084_c9b45e1635_o.jpg

The end of the Hell was nothing great, just proving that it is not always about the destination, but rather the journey.

Coming back I took this pic to see where I was. Must have been somewhere at the end of that valley.

The end, on the Swartberg Hotel stoep. A cold one with the one that made the journey possible in the background.

Feeling great about the day and very chuffed with myself.

OK. Now I declare myself to be a Wild Dog.

Thanks for reading.

ps: This was hard work.

Great, hope you do many many more. Actually, that was one of the first reports of 'The hell' that made it look easy!
