Let's hear from your "amper my gat afgeval" moments.
A couple of months ago when Duitser bought the GSR 600, I decided to take it out on the road for a test drive. Gobabis seems like the ideal place to go to and with 400km under the belt, we should know if the Suz qualify for being a nice naked touring bike too. Hardley Drivables can do it, why not a Suz?
Duitser on the back and off we go. Getting to know the bike and eventually we settled for 160 km/h as the best speed. Somewhere in the back of my mind something reminded me about wildlife in general but hey, the grass is short along the road and you can see anything from a mile. Next moment, 3 warthogs (the real ones, not the 4 wheel versions) appeared out of nowhere and I just knew this is a sure hit. No change here and I even picked my spot of tar. Braked as hard as I could and felt something hit my foot, rear wheel locked up momentarily, bike swayed a bit and we are home free. Looked in the mirror and saw the warthog finish the last of his spins in the road, jumped up, shake his head and trot off in the distance with his aerial straight up in the air. Stop and shake like something that has been poisoned. Duitser did not really see the whole episode happening and is remarkably calm. It happened that the warthog struck the engine with the tip of his nose, then hit my foot downwards, breaking off the brake lever and my foot then hit Duitser's foot from her footpeg.
On the way back, I am so careful and never exceeded 100km/h. Duitser had a good chuckle on my expense because I am now afraid after this little old piggy episode. Next moment, a hornbill (kwevoel) came in too low and I am sure this is my next "accident" for the day. Ducked and somehow missed him. How? Trying to figure that one out when I remember that Duitser is sitting a great deal higher than me on the back. Looked back and saw her eyes as big as saucers. Ja, helmets tends to amplify the noise of a little bird strike.....
Just heard on the radio that a young cheetah was hit by a car 10km out of town on the way to the airport. Not seriously injured but the people had quite a time to load it into a car for treatment at the vet. Apparently, those things have barbed wire everywhere and you not sommer pick him up.
