The turnoff can be found 50 or so meters east the Houwhoek hotel on the N2. The road runs on the northern side of the N2. Right after you turned off the N2, turn right into the gate. When you get to the T-junction, turn left to go to Botrivier.
Not sure about the history of the pass, but it might have been the original road from Grabouw to Botrivier before the N2 was there. The railway line runs along the road most of the way, so I suppose it's more of a service road nowadays. The first time we did the pass some company was busy laying fibre cables and it was badly eroded. It's been fixed up nicely since with "keerwalletjies" to redirect water. Watch out, because they are not too visible and might make you fly. Length is about 5 or 6 kms. It also leads you to the van der Stel pass.
There it is, that little grey track north of the N2.
The entrance facing east.
About halfway through facing east.
