Apologies in advance, since this will be a drive and not a ride... But I need some advice please.

The attached image refers.

We will be travelling West to East from the 13th of August out of Strandfontein, ending up at Gannaga Lodge on the 15th.  We also still don't really have much in the way of accommodation on the route, so it is quite flexible, 5 people in 2 4x4s, a Prado and my FJ, rigged for camping.

So, questions:
1) Will it be possible to do the Old Postal Route considering it's the rainy season with all the river crossings?  And if so, how kak is the road really - have heard rumours of tyre-chewing shale?
2) Any alternative suggestions?  I would really like to do Gannaga Pass on the way up to the lodge, instead of coming through from the Middelpos side, since we'll be leaving in that direction on the way home.

By voorbaat dank!
