the open day at daytona went down very well, you cant help but love it when the dealers all join in and put their bikes out there for every tom ,dick and dirty harry to thrash the living daylights out of them.
it is definetily the only way to encourage potential customers to part with their hard earned cash.
this all happened today, sunday the 9th.
the intermitent rain didnt stop the hordes of enthusiastic sunday warriors from pitching up and throwing a leg over the latest mx and enduro bikes on offer.
myself and sillyb pitched up on our daks and seemed to be the only ones who braved the shitty weather and used two wheels to get there.
the new 450 bm`s were of course the biggest crowd pullers and because i had my power ranger suit on whilst holeing up under the bmw awning i was consistently asked the most bizaare questions,like.............
can you get spares for bmw motorbikes?
why did they put flickers on it?.
why is it 10 000 rand cheaper than the ktm?
why doesnt it make any noise?
bmw certainly has a long way to go in capturing the new market that it has sought to throw itself into.
next door the ktm guys were also very busy,as it turned out to be a comparative test by everyone to ride the 450 bmw and the ktm 450.
i had a look at the new husaberg that ktm are bringing into the country, now that they have bought the smaller manufacturer ktm sa will soon be bringing the 450 to our shores, like ktm`s it will have the same 3 MONTH warranty!!
the lovely sounding akropovic pipe that the 450 ktm`s had on cost 18 000 rands, my van der linde pipe sounded even more lovely on the way home.
looking at the ktm and beemer you couldnt help but notice the similiar design lines, soon all the bikes are going to look the same and it will come down to what colour do you like.
currently the bm is ten grand cheaper than the ktm,all of this is going to change soon as the forward cover on all the bikes becomes depleted after the rand collapse, the new honda 450 is going to be around 90 grand!!!!
my vote for the best bike of the day had to be the puzzy 250,wow what a bargain six grand cheaper than the 230 honda and better in every way.great detail and nice shocks,ok the marzokki [spell]shocks dont get to keep their name plate but when you dig a little deeper and speak to mr puzey himself you realise that this bike should be flying off the shelves.
puzey is a very interesting chap and has really sparked my interest re next years 450 that he is building,it will have the honda 450 motor with all the good bits and hopefully come in around 48000 ,cant wait to see it.due in feb.
puzey also has a nice site..........puzey.co.za..........nice to hear the gossip first hand from the dealers, all in all was a nice day.
two pix of a puzey follow.
