Need to buy myself some new riding pants, and I've narrowed it down to either the Klim Dakar or Chinook. The Dakar is an over the boot pant, while the Chinook is designed to be worn in the boot. Lately I've been riding with my pants in the boot - this has not been attributed to any preference I have, it's just a result of not being able to get the pants over my humungous boots... obviously the Dakar is designed to address this, with a nifty cuff / velcro system.
It got me thinking though - why choose one over the other? If you watch any enduro events or the Dakar, it seems just about everyone is wearing in the boot pants.
I suppose with an in the boot pant:
- no chance of snagging the cuff on something like a branch or footpeg
- everything is very "snug" fitting - e.g. when wearing knee braces, everything's tucked in nicely
and with over the boot:
- possible cooler, since nothing is tucked into your boot
- less chance of water getting into the boot with a water crossing
What's your preference, and why? Maybe a silly discussion but that's never stopped me before :thumleft:
