Paint peeling on the 990

In shopping around for a new bike I'm seeing a number of 990 Adventures with the paintwork peeling off the fairing around the front indicators. Seems to be limited to the 2007 and 2008 models as far as I can tell and affects both the black and orange paint jobs.

Is this normal for the 990 or is it a sign of being cleaned with a high pressure washer / being left standing in the sun / a respray job /  ???
