Watty explaining why small bikes with road tyres are better. ;)

WTF!  What road tyres?  Here is the official info re the tekkies on my scoot, and btw, I had no hassles with both the mud monster or the easy movable rocks on the mountain sections!

Lyk vir my nog steeds soos pad tyres ;D

Ek sal nie se daai tyres is vir rowwe terein nie..................nice pigs manne. Lyk na n baie lekker trip

Thanks Watty,

nicely composed report, sums up a lekker ride had by all.
Great to meet all you fellow PE dawgs.

Thanks for organizing Cappie.

I was looking forward to the ride a lot, it was the first time taking the Strom off road and I was anxious to test her out.

How did the Strom do?

As soon as we hit the gravel I got a little worried, the bike felt very hard and jarring but did not lose grip.  The mud almost caught me out quite badly but managed to keep it the right way up after wriggling around a bit, the heart rate was up quite a bit after that 'moment'.  :p
Crab mentioned I should take some of the pressure out of the tyres, why I didn't do it straight away I'll never know.  ::)

Nevertheless the bike behaved 'ok' the rest of the way to Patensie, but it was very bumpy.  When Watty came past it looked as if he was floating on a cloud, that little Suzi really handles the rough stuff beautifully, I thought why am I finding this so difficult.  :-[

After lunch/brunch at Tolbos, Cappie and I took a ride to Baviaans.  It was only at the gate/entrance to the Baviaans that I let down the tyre pressure.  ::)  The bike was transformed after this, it improved matters big time.  Grip, comfort etc all much improved.  The Strom then felt at home on the loose and technical stuff and really impressed.

What is also notable is the low end/crawling ability of the Strom.  Climbing up to Bergplaas was a doddle.  When doing the same ride on my KLR I struggled with the steep technical parts.  The KLR often started lugging quite a bit at low speed, meaning I had to keep grabbing the clutch all the time, then speeding up faster than I would have liked to keep the revs up so she wouldn't struggle.
The Strom was completely different.  She just crawls along over almost anything in first gear, no rocking in gear, having to grab the clutch etc...  Crawls slowly and leisurely like a 4 X 4 with low range.  Much impressed.  ;D

Faith restored in the Strom, a dual-sport bike in the true sense, more tar biased but capable in the rough stuff,......just let down the tyres a bit  ;)

'Mamba

The boom went up late last year but has only been operational for the last couple of months. It's to stop off road bikes and 4 wheelers. They seem to have no problem with Adv bikes with luggage. Also you have to fill out the little sheet which asks where you have booked to stay. I have also heard that the road is being de-proclaimed and will be closed altogether to bikes as they will have predators in the park.

:p Bugger, hope it's not true!  Must do a weekend in the kloof soon, it may be out of bounds one day.  :angry7:
