Power Commander II - What is it?

I got a Power Commander II from a friend. Comes off a BMW 650.

Can I plug this into the 1200 GS or must I take it to someone to 'tune'?

Also, can I then throw the Throttle Modulator Thingy in the dustbin where it belongs?
