A spur of the moment decision (by stupidity I might add), got me into swimming the Midmar mile. The decision was made roughly 3 weeks ago and myself and frodo1985 decided to ride to the dam with the bikes, swim the mile and the go up the washed away Sani pass over Lesotho and then back to Pretoria.

Day 1:
We left Pretoria at around 11h00 and had to travel to Glensheiling caravan park close to Nottingham road in the midlands meander. We arrived at Nottingham road around 16h00 and stocked up on some food and beer. We then left the spar and followed google maps to the caravan park. We ended up 30km from the spar on a gravel road in front of a normal farm gate.. well apparently google maps were wrong and the camp site was 3km from the spar we just left.

Having to travel gravel was awesome, the issue was that we had to do it in the thickest mist I have ever rode a bike in..

Day 2:
We packed up early morning and found our way to the Midmar dam. After registration we went to the start line. I am proud to say we started together, swam together and finished together. WE MADE IT, although I had a lot of cramps.

After the dam we traveled to Underberg and made camp at Dragons rest.

Day3:
This was the big day.. ;D. Going up the washed away Sani Pass with the heavily overweight R1200GS and the KTM990R with the overweight rider.. ;)

Anyway, we left around 08h00 in the most perfect weather, the mist cleared away early morning and there was not a cloud in the sky.

We filled up at underberg and continued to Sani pass. The first gravel up to Sani bottom was awesome. The pass itself was very very difficult for the R1200GS. The road is washed away with big rocks everywhere. Some 4x4's turned around due to it being impassable in their minds.

The last few bends were in good condition and we got to the top as the champions of the day.. :thumleft:

We unfortunately didn't take a lot of photo's of the pass, but I will post what I have.

We then continued through Lesotho, what a beautiful country. We did however stress a bit, because we couldn't find any fuel. I just made it to Fouriesburg on the KTM.

We then traveled to Golden Gate to camp there for the last night.

Yes it was.

The crap thing is I was still there yesterday morning and I am now on my way for a meeting in Melrose arch.. :crybaby2:

I was at Midmar this weekend, in the car though - And was just thinking what a great trip it would be next year on a bike.

And now I get back and you've done it - well done  :thumleft:

I came back via Bezuidenhout's Pass    If you ever wanna f---k your 4x4 up proper, take it up there. Was a crazy drive but well worth doing next time on a bike.

Was jou bra happy met sy tyre keuse?
Hy was moerse happy. Om eerlik te wees, as dit nie vir daai tyres was nie, het ons nie teen Sani pass opgekom nie.

Hy se ook die tyres is die beste koop vir die hele trip.

Nice trip.I notice you don't have much protection on that BM?

thks for RR

Hey, we saw you guys at the bottom of Sani pass (3 okes riding XT660Z, KLR650 and a KTM1190). Glad to hear that you didn't have any issues going up - that road is gnarly at the moment!
