Replacing Grips

It is time for me to replace the grips on my 1150. Now some says you replace the whole unit (R900 Left & R1200 for the Right) while others say you only replace the rubber/grip itself (R210 for the set).

Sooo has anyone done this before?
What do i need to replace-the whole unit or only the grips?
