Did a Solo trip around KwaNbele yesterday. It was just under 400 km round trip, in 8 hours, of which about half was gravel. It went through no developed towns. just some villages, and locations, while the rest is empty. I saw very few cars until reaching Moloto, when almost home. A word of warning - Petrol. On a GS I couldnt make it on one tank, so either top up in cullinan or stop at Tuinplaas on the R33. Smaller rural stations were not all open.
Road conditions were fine except for one 20 km stretch which was very sandy and my back wheel started to slide but the GS found her footing again. Some parts are very badly corrugated. There is one place after leaving the tar on the bronkhorstspruit road where you strat to think you are lost as the load narrows and almost disappears and you you have to climb over rocks and a culvert into which the spruit has been channeled, but the road opens ip again.
If you want privacy, few vehicles, occassional black towns, and empty tar roads, its a nice trip. I would do it again. Only thing missing was water. The crossing of the Elandrivier is via a bridge.
You go through villages and see african family get-togethers under a tree, herdsmen, zig-zig through cows, and of course the drinking parties. But all were friendly and one even offered me beer. I think Mlungu on a bike through their gravel roads is not something they expect!
I had plans of lunch in Settlers. Forget it. F. all there. not one place for a beer. Just 2 general dealers. Even the 1 petrol station is closed. Good think I had a lunch packed.
