I have spoiled myself over this festive period and acquired a set of Rox Risers for the BMX.
Fitted them today and must admit that it is probably one of the best mods I ever did on a bike. For the first time I am able to stand while riding and NOT feel as if I am looking to be pushed any moment from the top floor of a 100 story jelly tower – just waiting to hit the ground head on.
It really makes such a big difference and I do like the option that the Rox risers give you to shift the bars forward / backwards as you like.
However, during and subsequent to installing them on the X, I had some technical issues which my “highly mechanical adapted” brain were unable to figure out.
First Question:
Knowing how the rox risers assemble, how on earth is it possible that the two aren’t completely aligned? See the picture below where you’ll note that the left “clamp” is ever so slightly more forward than the right clamp. In my opinion the Only way that this can happen, given the design of the Rox Risers, is if your bar is bend.? And mine is not. Or am I smoking something?
Second issue
How do you tighten all four bolts equally tight? I had to tighten the front two, but still not to tight in order to allow me to push the handlebar fwd into its desired position – only then was I able to get to the back two to really tighten them, leaving the front two still quite loose. Any suggestions in this regard on how to also tighten the front two bolts will be much appreciated? Or are they designed to stay slightly loose?.
Third issue
Given the substantial rise of the bar, there is now some strain on the ABS’ braised hoses if the handlebar is turned all the way to the left. (Slight left turns, full right turns and being in the straight position is absolutely fine).
See pic below.
Firstly, the hoses seem to pull a couple of mm’s when the bars are turned all the way over to the left. Should this be an issue of concern?
Secondly, when turned all the way to the left, the whole unit moves slightly upwards and forwards, but not so much that I am too concerned. Or should I be???
Apart from the above concerns, I really like these new additions to the ever growing black hole.
O yes – I was also wondering what the four threaded holes in each riser is – presumably to fit something like a GPS bracket?
Anyone with some positive input will be greatly appreciated - ta
