They were very cool, my son has hijacked mine for a school bag, I'll take a pic of his one tonite and post it, by the way the goodie bag was very cool, a very lekker fitting cap, a T shirt, a metal badge and two bags of sweets, chips, dried fruit, nuts and a whole bunch of snacks as well as 2 energades for the 2 days of riding. Also Sierra Ranch is a lekker venue as they are a very bike friendly hotel, it was originally owned by Jim Redman. Biking is encouraged there and not frowned upon. It is also situated in the middle of some awesome Adv riding country

Here is a clip off of their site:

"Motor Biking and Quad Biking

Bring your motorbikes and quads and test your riding skills on our moto cross track, which includes some testing double jumps and a 30 meter table top. For the trail riding specialists we have over 700 hectares of breathtaking countryside to explore with rocky hillclimbs, rivercrossings, mudholes and some wide open grasslands for the speed freaks (just beware of the odd porcupine hole). We also have up to 30 Km of existing marked trails for those who would rather stick to the beaten track. Correct protective gear including a helmet at all times is compulsory on the farm."

Thanks, always great to have feedback on the items that are provided by the company.  I'm glad they went down well......

what i can see looks awesome....

I believe a rider went down outside Jozi on his trip home...Does anybody have any more info??  :'(  :'(  :'(

Dont know if its the same a rider but someone hit a person on the road on his way back  from the fest

From an organiser's perspective, it was so great to see and hear and experience all the positive feedback.  A humbling experience....  All I can say is thank you very much to everyone who came, this crowd was easy to please, and the weekend was about the rider and riding - nothing else.  It just showed that the DS family is a serious thing - riders from all bike brands all enjoying the event together, with the usual chirping of course....  We had great fun organising everything since February, and it was just great to be there.  The organising team and all the suppliers to the event were all mentioned, including EV and Bunnyhuggers.  Thank you!

Here is a pic of the stuff in the bag everbody received when they arrived.  The Chilly sticker and badge was handed out at the end of the Saturday Chilly route to all those who completed the route.  And the 2 lunch packs are not shown.

I did not have time to take pics, but 2 Wheels and Rizel collected lots of footage, watch 2 Wheels on Monday.  There is a DVD being compiled and Rizel is sending an e-mail to all participants.  Some exciting footage from a helmet cam on Alfie's head, and lots of stuff from all over the routes and time trial.

The sad part was the accident that occurred between Heidelberg and Alberton on Sunday.  A group of six riders were travelling together when Simon Li's bike collided with a pedestrian and sadly killed both pedestrian and rider.  Our thoughts are with all who have suffered loss, I really hope that you guys find the strength to cope with this sad accident and its consequences.

I am doing a full event report, watch this space....

Darryl skipped the WFO for this, he must have been paid quite a bit.

Nobody got paid to attend or appear, just some friends having fun together.  Darryl and Riaan contributed by giving a GPS lecture and sold some GPS's.  They also provided assistance with downloading routes and tracks and general advice around GPS issues.  They also arranged for a GPS to be sponsored by Garmin SA as a prize to the winner of the Time Trial.

They were awesome indeed!  Thanks for your input, things worked really well.

Darryl made a lot of money being there over the weekend.
Simple as that. Definately no "goodwill and just riding" involved.

Hay SGB heard good reports from my mates that went

And the dead elephant ? heard that show up well on the time trial

Not so sure that he made "a lot of money"....  How many units need to be sold to cover fuel and accommodation?  And via them the event got a Zumo sponsored as a prize.  And he sold units because the price was better than anywhere else.  I know the margins, there was actually more of the goodwill part than commercial gain.  The same goes for the other sponsors, they all put in more than what they took out, however the investment in the longer term relationship is where the value is.  Win-Win situation for rider and sponsor, and sustainable.

Very eloquently put (my first reaction would have been verbal abuse), I have been watching this banter with interest and those were my thoughts exactly, he was selling Zumo 500's at R 6 600.00, sure it was good marketing, but his service is brilliant and he is a genuinely nice guy.
a quick search of the net finds this

Bottom line is he is not trying much a quick buck out of his fellow motorcyclists,

Hey, I dont want to spoil your opinion of Darryl in the slightest.
I have met him and concur.

But be real guys.
Not making a quick buck, but making a buck none the less.
To say he was not paid to be there is a laugh. He went for business reasons.
Marketing his business is being paid to be there, doing wonderfull things on a KTM950SE out of his own will is being there for the love of riding.

Lets have some tea....  Better than arguing with Shark.

No need to argue, he's allowed to have his opinion and I do tend to agree with him.

I also think from KTM SA's point of view it would be a very clever move to send Darryl on a 950 SE to show what the bike can do in the hands of a VERY capable rider.  ;)

Oh, you are arguing?

Im being real, better than sitting around the fire having "humbling experiences" and singing kumbaya.

Glad the event was a success and everyone who contributed got what they wanted out of it. Commercial or social.
