Silicon spray to protect?

Anybody  here that spray your bike with silicon after a wash to protect and lubricate? The offroad guys do it on plastics and engine..
Will it not burn onto engine, etc.
I have used WD40 on offroad bikes, but not yet silicon spray..
Please share your experience?
