Grey Hound
I had to take the engine out of Mrs Nivea's XR650L today and decided that while Tim is busy with the engine I will service every thing else to be sure that once up and running everything is 120%
Some pics of the stripping done today.
Thanks Pete for helping me move the bike and MildDog for taking the engine to Tim :thumleft:
What I plan to do thus far
So what else should I do while the bike is in bits?
Some pics once I already had the engine out
Im not happy with this, the engine had been kept open while it stood waiting for us to decide what to do by the mech that was going to work on it before we figured out Tim is the beginning and end of any XR650 conversation
now this is my way of doing things
Le engine
close up on the damage
Nice long range tank
Important not to mess on the floor :deal:
Ola faithful in the background ;D
I think I will seal this up and build a nice high snorkel just for some extra room with water crossings
And done for the night
Going to ceramic coat both the headers and the exhaust
Will post more once I do more

What I plan to do thus far
- Service the shocks (need to figure out how one does that to air shocks?)
- Install a HID
- Install heated grips
- Ceramic coat the exhaust & (possibly the exterior of the engine and oil cooler too)
- Replace the stock hooter with a nice loud air horn :mwink:, 140 decibel one like mine eepwall:
- Service the neck and swing arm bearings
- Tempted to powercoat the spokes and rims
- Inspect and load test every switch and cable on the bike
- Have the battery tested and replace if need be
- String up spare throttle and clutch cables
- A good few bolts id like to replace with higher quality ones that wont rust and strip
- Install a lowering link I bought
- Add new folding mirrors
- Add a screen
- Have a nice sticker kit made up for the bike
- Dries did a lekka job when he restored the bike so its in a great condition already
- LED taillight and indicators
- Headlight cover - orange
So what else should I do while the bike is in bits?
