Day 11
And so the last day of my trip arrived. Sadly I had to point Jemima’s nose towards home. But not before taking off the rear wheel one more time. I had since grown severely allergic to flat wheels and I still did not trust the tube with the slow puncture in the rear wheel. And so that rear wheel came off for the fourth time. I will not bore you with the details of fixing the wheel , but suffice to say that I spent more than an hour patching and inflating tubes before I was happy.
With that done it was time to hit the shower. And once again , what a nice shower !
This was the view of the rising sun’s rays hitting the mountains behind the Dwars bar.
After a lovely shower I had a very nice breakfast.
And then it was time to get going. I turned left out Koedoeskloof towards the mountains and did the little loop for the scenic views it had.
I got lost in Ladysmith , but eventually found the filling station and after topping off Jemima’s tank it was time to aim for Sewe weeks poort.
Once again I will let the pictures tell the story.
Out of Seweweeks poort it was on the road to Laingsburg.
In my mind this was the end of the trip. I expected to do tar road all the way home with the odd pic of interesting rock formations like the one below on the way.
Boy was I wrong. Just before Laingsburg I turned left onto a dirt road that ran parallel with the N1 towards Touwsiver. The sign said Witteberge.
Immediately after the turn I started to climb a little pass onto a plateau with a nice view of the mountains.
And then down a little pass …
And into a valley between two mountain ranges.
I can not begin to state how much I enjoyed this piece of road. The road surface and the views and scenery just blew my mind. I can not explain why this piece of road gave me such joy , because in retrospect it was just another nice Karoo road, but this road just blew me away.
Around every corner or across every little ridge was a new view and something new to see and photograph.
I saw this big farmhouse being built. Looks like this farmer is building himself a small mansion.
This stood in stark contrast to the little dilapidated houses a little farther up the road.
I realized that my trip was coming to an end , but this road was the perfect ending to a fantastic trip.
I stopped in Touwsrivier for some fuel for myself and Jemima.
And then made my way towards Ceres, Bainskloof and home.
I stopped for one last pic of Jemima with Table mountain in the background.
And then made a beeline for home where all of the unpacking and cleaning still waited for me.
All in all this trip was all I had hoped it would be and more. I just can not wait to do the next one.
