Jammer om te hoor van jou dramas.
Wonderlike trip report en jou fotos is ongelooflik mooi!

Hey Slaaiblaar, thanks for posting the additional Verneukpan pics! Glad to hear the rest of your trip went well!

After exiting the Karoo Tankwa park I set off on the R355 in the direction Cape Town. Made quick stop for  refreshments at the Tankwa Padstal, in all its renovated/ re-built glory. I'd never been there, but had seen the "before" pics on the Forum and heard about all the "gedoentes".  The decor is really quirky, especially loved the barbies in the braai grid ("Barbecue"  :big grin:).  Relaxed in a very comfortable armchair (apparently donated by Piston Pete?). Spent a while chatting to Wally, before heading down towards the Cederberg via Katbakkies pass. Was really glad to leave the tyre eating roads behind.

Just what the doctor ordered - Ant I am even relaxed reading your RR  :thumleft:

Now, numerous people I'd met along the way said that if I was going to Cederberg I must stop at the Oasis. Unfortunately I was now on a bit of time pressure, needing to be in Stellenbosch for New Year, and still wanting to see some of the West Coast. The parts of the Cederberg I rode through (Katbakkies to Citrusdal, via the Middelberg pass) were spectacular, and Ill be back there to explore some more, for sure.

From Citrusdal I hit the tar, all the way to Velddrif, then south to St Helena bay for a quick look-see, then on to Paternoster. Before even stopping properly in Paternoster I was offered fresh crayfish... R70 for big ones and R10 each for smaller tails. Didn't buy any  but was lucky enough to meet some generous campers at my next overnight stop who gladly shared theirs with me  ;D

The place I stayed is called The Beach Camp, in the Cape Columbine reserve. Highly recommended, and I could have stayed for a month!

Some more from The Beach Camp and Cape Columbine.

Made some coffee early in the morning and walked out onto the rocks to watch some fishermen. The sea was crystal clear. I had come all the way from the East Coast, and couldn't not at least jump in on the West Coast. So I did. Briefly!

Just south of The Beach Camp is Tietiesbaai which I went to check out. I was expecting rugged camping, and a beautiful coastline. Well, the coastline may have been there, but in the camp area itself it was crazy. Most of the campers couldn't have seen the sea from their sites if they tried. Ive seen more room to move in a squatter camp. And it looked like 4x4 world had come to the sea for the holidays. Maybe off season it would be better, but this wasn't my idea of a holiday. This is said with all due respect to the campers, whom I presume all were having a jolly fine time  ;)
