BMW has launched what it claims is the first range of motorcycles that can be ordered, for a premium, with a lowered suspension to drop the seat height.Feedback from female, novice and shorter riders has, the bikemaker says, confirmed a need for seats to be even lower than the already-available option.

Such riders said they would feel more secure with both feet firmly on the ground - especially in city traffice. BMW agreed: "Our new extra-low suspension bikes will ensure that more riders are able to do this - naturally, comfortably and safely."

As examples, the lowered suspension option currently available on the F800S and ST bikes reduces the seat height from the standard 840mm to 760mmRiders said they would feel more secure with both feet firmly on the ground. This option, launched in 2007, has been ordered by 45 percent of buyers.
