we meet up on the road, about 60km still to go to Walvis....

Ironically the Germans that were kind enough to give my pillion a lift each have a GS, however neither have been offroad. The German woman has a bike like mine and has done a 10,000km trip to the northernmost point in Europe (from Germany). Last year they rode to the Alps on their bikes.

Walvis Bay / Swakopmund is quadbike heaven ! We saw at least a hundred quads on the dunes.

We stayed 2 days in Swakopmund (B&B). Accomodation here is expensive by normal Namibian standards.

Day 9: Swakopmund to Rehoboth via Windhoek.

All tar roads....what a change !!!!!

There were two occasions when the wind gave us an unexpected klap, like a quick left and a hard right. Pretty scary and totally unexpected.

Here we had a bite to eat at the Bahnhof Hotel in Usakos. What a pleasure to have ice cream in that heat.

Bubby julle twee gaan nog laaank terugdink aan die trip.
Baie lekker. :drif:

Nice R&R and pics. How did you find your pannier bags? I'm busy designing my own from heavy Cotton Canvas.

Windhoek .....

We did find a couple of drivers to be a bit ridiculous near Windhoek, as if they have no regard for others. Totally oblivious to solid lines and not giving us much space when they passed us. I suppose that is the nice part of small towns....hardly any traffic.

We filled up in Windhoek and rode down Independance Ave, and headed for a smaller town with haste.

I bought mine off gumtree...(but paid far too much).

Really the best is to have them made up (much cheaper). Mine tend to sag after a long day, but Digger50 has since showed me how to strap each one to the pannier frame which will solve that problem. So on my trip they sagged a bit. Each bag has 2 long velcro straps (one set joins under the seat, the other one over). I think your idea of cotton canvas is good.

Riding south from Windhoek, we stumbled upon Lake Oanob Resort at Rehoboth.

What a pleasant surprise !

This is a "must see" place with a large dam, camping area, chalets, swimming pool etc. At night you hear the donkeys from the other side of the river and hundreds of frogs making a racket. They offer a safari ride too. We saw giraffe as we left the resort.

Amazing, all you can see from the tar road is a simple signboard.
I suppose that is the nice part of our trip through Namibia.
