This was our first ride on our new Yamaha XT 1200 Tenere. We decided to take it slow and start off on the tar road and gradually move onto gravel. We set off from Springbok and ride to Port Nollith then onto Kleinzee via gravel road through Kommegas and back to Springbok. So I hope you enjoy .
Our first "pit stop" was about 40km out of Springbok. There we stopped at an old 'filling' station where the railroad used to transport supplies and copper from the coast of Port Nollith to the surrounding towns. The railroad and station are so old the people used donkeys to pull the wagons. this specific area was where the donkeys could have a drink of water and rest a bit.
From there we rode on to Port Nolloth, another 80km and we arrived in Port Nolloth to fuel up and have a cold drink. We then set off on the first bit of gravel road to Kleinzee. Hannes ans I still need to get used to the soft sand here and there and the corrugation was quite a challenge. Another 50km (give or take) we entered Kleinzee and we were out again before we knew it. About 6km you get a left turn and ride on the "Rooi Pad". This gravel road belongs to De Beers mining and is very well taken care of. It drives like a tar road . It is not recommended to ride on it when wet, because then the ground feels like snot...haha
This bit of gravel road is 30-40km and ends in a small town called Kommegas. We just drove through and came back on to the tar. A few twists ans turn and another pass for 90-100km. Then we were safe and sound back home.... 8)
