Hi,
We are planning to venture into Lesotho during the winter school holiday. In the book Dirtbusters (Deon Meyer), they describe a route (page 89) where you start from Clarens, go through Golden Gate, then enter Lesotho via Monantsha border post and then travel along the Caledon river and then exit Lesotho at Joëlsdrift/Caledonspoort and ride back to Clarens.
We are preparing for some other trips in the area as well and have been really looking forward to it, but now we have come across this report on facebook:

" Lesotho - Just been stopped again 4th road block in 25km. Had to pay R500.00 in each road block and the last one R1000.00 or jail . We did absolutely nothing wrong but every road block we were accused if negligent driving which is a criminal offence.
Just left the boarder through  Ficksburg and Lesotho will never ever see us again.  We have reported it too the tourist board and authorities,  but we know nothing will be done about it.  So , fellow south Africans beware and do not venture into Lesotho unless you want to get rid if your hard earned sa rands, it really sucks"

So what now? Can any other dogs confirm this? Has anyone on this forum and reading these topics been to Lesotho very recently and have you came across such problems? Has anyone recently done this route as describec in the book and what would your comment about this route be?

Any comments, feedback, suggestions or confirmation around this report/route will be of great help, thanks.

Vicky.
