Steering damper question

Hi guys,

I recently bought myself a second hand steering damper for my 800 GS. The guy I bought if from only sent me the general instructions and not for the specific bike. I installed the damper, but the tower pin does not fall in the center of the link arm as the manual states it should. Can any one help me here?
