Reading the prolonged deliberations on the pros and cons of all of today's expensive and technically over complicated machinery,
I can't help thinking that the most capable off road bike I ever owned by far was an early 1970's 250cc Bultaco. I'm sure that if I still had it today I would be a far more capable dirt rider, handling the more technical stuff with much greater confidence than I can on my present bikes.
OK, I know that what we ride today has been forced upon us by the legislators, and they have advantages in the area of brakes etc. That said though, and environmental considerations aside, does no one else mourn the demise of those light, simple oh so rideable machines?
And what about the awesome power of the 500cc two stroke moto crossers? Are today's 450's really better, or have they just been 'tamed'?
