The economic situation appears to be dire. Free coffees at Heiningklip / Pinehaven Sasol stopped. Sun City wanted R70 entrance but you get R30 back in tokens, so! We are survivors and delight in forums like Pooratech. One always has options and enjoy a breakfast ride we were going to do.
Plan B was to go around the corner to Bakubung Game Lodge. Things were not going well for us. It took some convincing to arrange for a ranger to fetch us. We where not allowed to ride to the lodge unescorted. They must have had one look at us and decided that we had somehow hidden a rifle and where intent on helping ourselves to some ‘on the bone’ food. Eventually, we got to the lodge only to be told that we could not have breakfast. Someone’s life nearly ended at that point. With some diplomacy, we where seated and kindly requested to wait 30 minutes for the kitchen to open again. In consolation we got a strong coffee to enjoy. Our brunch arrived promptly. We had between us hamburgers and a steak roll. Not bad.
A good days riding may be defined as finishing a tank of fuel. My bike’s tank is a little large and a range of around 450km. This ride fits perfected into this definition. One can definitely feel that one has been around the countryside.
The roads are currently glorious. Not a hint of mud, mostly freshly graded and not far off being as good as tarred. I could not help myself but ride almost as fast as the bike would go. Just the best riding for a dual sport bike. Felt I could have carried on riding the whole day grinning from ear to ear.
Nothing major happened apart from the economy collapsing. A top box came loose. Seems to be inevitable on dirt roads. At least it did not break off.
A good days riding, a little too fast yet never scary. A bit dusty, one cannot have everything. What one has to go through for breakfast, yet worthwhile.
