The economic situation appears to be dire. Free coffees at Heiningklip / Pinehaven Sasol stopped. Sun City wanted R70 entrance but you get R30 back in tokens, so! We are survivors and delight in forums like Pooratech. One always has options and enjoy a breakfast ride we were going to do.

Plan B was to go around the corner to Bakubung Game Lodge. Things were not going well for us. It took some convincing to arrange for a ranger to fetch us. We where not allowed to ride to the lodge unescorted. They must have had one look at us and decided that we had somehow hidden a rifle and where intent on helping ourselves to some ‘on the bone’ food. Eventually, we got to the lodge only to be told that we could not have breakfast. Someone’s life nearly ended at that point. With some diplomacy, we where seated and kindly requested to wait 30 minutes for the kitchen to open again. In consolation we got a strong coffee to enjoy. Our brunch arrived promptly. We had between us hamburgers and a steak roll. Not bad.

A good days riding may be defined as finishing a tank of fuel. My bike’s tank is a little large and a range of around 450km. This ride fits perfected into this definition. One can definitely feel that one has been around the countryside.

The roads are currently glorious. Not a hint of mud, mostly freshly graded and not far off being as good as tarred. I could not help myself but ride almost as fast as the bike would go. Just the best riding for a dual sport bike. Felt I could have carried on riding the whole day grinning from ear to ear.

Nothing major happened apart from the economy collapsing. A top box came loose. Seems to be inevitable on dirt roads. At least it did not break off.

A good days riding, a little too fast yet never scary. A bit dusty, one cannot have everything. What one has to go through for breakfast, yet worthwhile.

Nice one Splash. Next time organise for a Sunday and I will be there!

Looks like a fine ride. I will definitely be keen for the next one.

If you go on a Sunday, you can get into Sun City for free. They have a biker's breakfast run special.

Thanks a million. It was a STUNNING ride.

After hitting that concrete drain pipe the topbox bracket broke and I decided to call it quits at breakfast and come back via the tar road. Just as well as the bracket was busy disintegrating. Got home without any further incident (yay to duct tape and cable ties), and spent yesterday glueing and realigning the bracket (have also added another ali plate and put ali angle iron on the corners, all glued and filled with silicone). Odd that these brackets are made out of plastic... this breaks inna bush and it will be almost impossible to fix next to the road.

Coffee stops on the 1st June and Pinehaven.
They had to give a warning period.

Yeah was a sweet ride, nice and long as well, specially since i had to get back for rugga at 3pm, made it with about 5 minutes to spare, well timed splash.

Some pics from my side.

Yeah, it's good to ride in winter (Highveld).  Just about any ride would do.  Thanks for the RR and piccies - I've been away a lot and haven't got a leg over in 2 weeks, nice to see some dirt road and dust, even if through someone else's camera lens...

Great you liked the post. See you on a gravel road some time.
