Its often difficult to get an idea of the terrain from photos as they tend to get "flattened" out quite a lot but this one really gives an indication of what the "road" was like.

Turtle respect with doing that terrain with pillion on a strom  :thumleft:

Thanks to Jules for taking Allison down the first 500+m. My foot that was trapped under the bike was a bit painful, and I could not at that time use the ankle, i.e. no rear braking so I decided that it would be more sensible for Jules to ride it until I got the movement back a a few minutes later.

The whole falling incident came about as I was scared to ground the engine on the rocks as I have no metal bash plate on the bike. So trying to run a weird line on the rocks were my undoing.

Still awaiting the official result from the X-Rays, at first glance (radiologist's opinion) it appears a small fracture on 1 rib.

Well done Guys!!! The velore Vallei pass is easier going up, than down...Respect to all of you. (to my knowledge, that is in fact called the SANDSPRUIT Pass. It starts halfway up Middledale Pass at "Gevaar Fourie".... or am I confused?
Sorry I missed it! :thumleft:

Just for interest the SW Motech Alli bash plate is the way to go for Vstroms. They take a hell of a beating and protect the sump briliantly. Still tho 2 up riding in those conditions on a Vstrom very brave  :thumleft:

Never mind your ribs and stuff how is Allison  :peepwall:

Eish Turtle ... hope that rib is not fractured as feared ... all the best and hope you will get well soon.

Allison only cracked the right side panel when I fell.

The real damage occurred when Jules pushed the bike (and me) over! >:D

Lost half of the clutch lever and the left indicator.

She crashes real well.

So we rode the rest of the day as well as the return Swinburne-Hartebeespoort yesterday with no issues. (Just some twinges in the ribcage) ;D

Awesome trip  :thumleft:

We are having our first SA Caponord gathering in Geluksburg end of August and atleast some of us will be getting there via Tintwa(Middledale) Pass. We are planning to do Bezuidenhouts on the Saturday of our weekend but it seems not all are game for that particular excursion.  ;)

Will post some pics when we get back.

thanks a million to jules and peter for a fantastic riding weekend
lee & ian

Must have just missed you lot on Normandien. We left Memel at about 9 on Saturday, and made our way  to Harrismith via Mullers, Normandien and Collins.

I know there was no Jack, Jagermeister or Tequila left in the Memel Hotel when you got there.  ;)
